  • carousel

A rotating display that shows one or a few items at a time in a horizontal strip, with arrows or swipes to move through the rest.

  • coach marks

Brief pointer-and-label overlays that appear the first time you use a feature, highlighting buttons and explaining what they do.

  • context menu

A small menu of relevant actions that appears when you right-click or long-press an item, offering choices specific to that item.

  • debounce

A technique that waits until you have stopped typing or clicking for a short moment before acting, so an app does not fire off a request on every single keystroke.

  • drag and drop

A way of moving or acting on things on screen by pressing on an item, holding, sliding it to a new spot, and letting go.

  • focus trap

A technique that keeps keyboard focus inside an open dialog or menu, so pressing Tab cycles only through that element's controls instead of wandering off to the page behind it.

  • hover intent

A technique that waits a fraction of a second and checks that the pointer is deliberately settling on an item before triggering a hover menu, so menus don't flicker open as the cursor merely passes over.

  • inline editing

Editing content right where it appears on the page by clicking on it, instead of opening a separate form or screen.

  • lazy loading

Loading content only when it is actually needed, such as images just before they scroll into view, instead of loading everything up front, to make pages start faster.

  • long press

Pressing and holding a finger on an item for a moment, instead of a quick tap, to reveal extra options or actions.

  • momentum scrolling

A scrolling effect where content keeps gliding for a moment after you lift your finger or flick, gradually slowing to a stop as if it had real weight and friction. It is common on touchscreens and trackpads.

  • optimistic ui

An interface that instantly shows the result of an action as if it already succeeded, then confirms with the server in the background and corrects itself only if something fails.

  • pinch to zoom

A two-finger gesture where you spread your fingers apart to zoom in or bring them together to zoom out on an image, map, or page.

  • pull to refresh

A gesture where you drag the top of a list or page downward and release to load the newest content.

  • scroll snapping

A scrolling behaviour where the view automatically settles onto a set position, such as the start of the next card or section, instead of stopping wherever the finger or wheel happens to release. It keeps content neatly aligned after every scroll.

  • scrubbing

Dragging along a progress bar or timeline to move quickly to a specific point in a video, audio track, or animation.

  • swipe

A quick sliding gesture across the screen with a finger, used to move between screens, dismiss items, or reveal hidden actions.

  • wizard

A guided, step-by-step flow that breaks a big task into a sequence of smaller screens, handling one question or decision at a time.
